I’d like to introduce you lovely ladies (& men) to my new favorite mascara…

If you remember I’ve done a few mascara posts siting such mascaras as Covergirl Lash Blast & Dior Iconic among other…BUT I’m now obsessed.. I repeat OBSESSED… with this new mascara.

Nuetrogena  Healthy Lengths Mascara – $7.49

This mascara does NOT clump at all, builds amazing, clean length, & comes off easily with any type of face wash (no makeup remover necessary although it is also formulated in a waterproof version as well.).

I received an amazing package from Neutrogena & absolutely loved everything in it, but this was by far my favorite item. More reviews on Neutrona products are to come.

I love this makeup look on Kim Kardashian. Fuchsia lips are such a statement & can dress up a casual outfit.

Try NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Funny Face $24.00 (below) to achieve the look. Top the lipstick with a matching gloss or a lipgloss with a gold tinted lipgloss.

I am not one who usually uses undereye creams, but I recently visited the Dermologica Academy to pick up some product. (I made a post about my trip a couple of weeks ago. Click here to check it out! )

The man who was helping me gave me a couple of samples of Dermologica undereye cream. After trying the samples, I noticed how moisturized my undereyes felt & looked, & how much easier my undereye concealer went on.

I want to purchase an undereye cream even though I don’t have any fine lines or wrinkles yet. It’s important to note that the point of an undereye cream is to PREVENT wrinkles from forming before they happen. It’s much easier to PREVENT than try to REVERSE later. Even if you’re only 20, it’s a good idea to purchase an undereye cream. Undereye skin is extremely thin, so it’s easy to see dark circles & discoloration.

I’m going to try Clinique’s All About Eyes Rich $29.00. I will be sure to give you all a detailed review on this product ASAP!

Clinique All About Eyes Rich

Speaking of undereye cream, it’s important to note how much easier it makes concealer go on. That brings me to my favorite undereye concealer. If you know me, you know my favorite conclear is:

This stuff is magic. Don’t take my word for it, just go try it. I love it!

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer

To Apply:
  • Wash face & apply undereye cream with ring finger, gently patting the product to increase absorption
  • Allow the undereye cream to absorb for a couple of minutes
  • Using your ring finger, dip it in the creamy concealer pot & pat onto the undereye area out to the outer corners of the eyes. Gently blend with your ring finger

  • Use your ring finger because it is the most gentle on your thin undereye skin
  • Warm up the concealer between your hands before applying. A warm concealre will go on even smoother
  • You can use a concealer brush to apply. I like my finger because the heat of my skin warms the product for a smoother application

Happy Monday (or not so happy if you’re like 90% of the world)!

I’m enjoying getting back into the blogging flow. I’ve missed sharing my thoughts. I think it took a change in seasons + a full-time paycheck + access to better designing programs to get me back in full blogging gear. I think I’m here to stay!

One thing I can admit about myself is that I’m messy. I will own that. I define messy. Someone once told me some of the most creative people are also the messiest. I like that explanation, so I’ll blame my messiness on my creativity.

Although I’m messy, there’s a big difference between being messy & being dirty – I’m not dirty… I’m messy. Did I mention I’m messy? I always have a million things to do (40+ hour work week + pretending to work out + dinner with friends + full-time girlfriend duty + family functions) so when I’m home I tend to try on a million different outfits & half of them end up on the floor. I’m working on it. But one place where I detest mess… is on my makeup brushes…

I HATE – I repeat HATE – dirty makeup brushes. I’m pretty sure one of my friends (she will remain nameless) never washes her makeup brushes. Whenever I see them it looks like they haven’t been washed in years & it looks like she mixed 5 colors on the brush without washing it in between. Ew.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to wash your makeup brushes. Why? Because:

  1. Brushes hold bacteria & oil, & can cause less than pretty skin if not frequently washed
  2. You will get better coverage & more exact color results with clean brushes

I’m not sure what scientific research has quoted as the correct amount of time to go between brush washes, but I like to give my brushes a quick bacteria- killing swirl every other weekend. If I’m on-site doing makeup I’ll use MAC Brush Cleaner $12.00 ( picture below) to quickly wash off the brushes before using a new color. I use Ivory Soap when I’m cleaning my brushes on the weekend (you can use any mild cleansar, but make sure it’s something fragarance free).

1. MAC Brush Cleaner 2. MAC 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush

Cleaning Process

  • Wet brushes with warm water
  • Swirl brush on the bar of soap to get a good lather
  • Rinse under warm water until the water runs clear
  • Clean the brush again by swirling on the bar of soap
  • Rinse under warm water until the water runs clear
  • Repeat if necessary
  • Lay brushes on a paper towel on a flat surface & allow them to dry overnight
  • Dense brushes may take longer to dry

TIP: Don’t use a brush unless it’s 100% dry – it will streak your makeup

Here’s an eyeshadow trio that would be great for a purple smokey eye. This is fun to do at night!

Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio in V1308 – Bouquet $33.00

TIP: Whenever I do a colored smokey eye, I always make sure I NEVER match it to what I’m wearing. I think that’s so corny (sometimes it CAN be done though). I love the look of an all nude outfit with a colored smokey eye (green or blue), or an all black outfit with a smokey eye that pops (metallics).

Hi everyone! I got a request from my friend Brittney. She wanted a tutorial on a subtle smokey eye. She wanted something that would be obvious, but not overly obtrusive.

I decided to go with a Brown Smokey Eye to achieve this look. I’d pair a nude lip with a brown smokey eye for a nice day to night look. A nude lip color I love is MAC Myth or MAC Half ‘N Half. Of course the color nude you pick depends on your own skin coloring. See the look below for an example.

Use a trio of colors for a smokey eye. You need one color the shade of your skin, one light color for a highlight & a deep color to achieve the depth in your crease for the smokey effect.

From Left to Right

  1. MAC Eyeshadow in Grain $14.50 – Use a fluffly eyeshadow brush (I like to use the MAC 217 Blending Brush $22.50 to apply the medium toned shade all over my eyelid up to my eyebrow. Use circular motions to make sure you completely & evenly blend the color.
  2. MAC Eyeshadow in Shroom $14. 50 – Use the same MAC 217 Blending Brush to apply the lightest color right below your eyebrow & blend well. This step can also be done last.
  3. MAC Eyeshadow in Folie $14.50 – Use an eyeshadow brush (I recommend the MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush $24.50) with the darkest color. Pack the color onto the brush & then pack it in the crease of your eye. I like to also apply clor to the outer corner of the top lashline .
  4. Use the MAC 217 Blending Brush in circular motions to blend the darkest color so it melds together well. You do not want to see where on color starts & another ends.
  5. Repeat step #3 if you want a more intense color.
  6. Line your upper and lower lid with your preferred pencil. I love MAC Kohl pencils & Sephora Long Lasting Eye Liner $10.
  7. Pile on 2 or 3 coats of mascara onto (CLEAN) lashes. Maybelline‘s Collasal mascara is a new favorite of mine. Cheap & works so well!
  8. Fill in any sparse areas in you eyebrows. This will complete your look. I love MAC

Tip: Bring your eyeshadow brush & the deepest color in the trio to work with you. Use the brush to apply a deeper coat in your crease & outter corner of your eyes to transition your look from day to night.

Tip: This smokey eye can be done with any trio of colors. Apply the medium toned color all over your eyelid, up to your eyebrow. Apply the lightest color under your eyebrow as a highlight. Use the deepest color in your crease & DON’T FORGET TO BLEND!

Tip: A great way to make this look stand out is to use a deep metallic/shimmery color in your crease. Another way to transition the look from day to night!

Although it may seem like a drag… but when the season changes

In the winter your skin can lose it’s tan from the summer & make you one or two shades lighter.  I recommend searching for a new shade foundation for the winter season & do the same next summer when you get your tan. There’s nothing worse than being able to SEE someone’s foundation color.

Try Covergirl foundations, they’re great!!

Check out the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Invisible Cover Foundation colors below that I use in the different seasons.
